How to Use Google SSO to Access the Canvas Student App (iPad)

1. Locate and Open the App

Locate the App: Find the Canvas Student app icon on your iPad. The icon typically looks like this:

Open: Tap the icon to launch the Canvas Student app.

2. Search for Your School (JLA)

The app will require you to identify your institution first.

Tap "Find My School."
Enter Search Term: In the search bar, type your school's acronym: JLA.
Select Your School: Tap on the official school entry when it appears. It should look like this:

(The full URL, which is jla.instructure.com)

3. Log In with Google SSO

Once you select JLA, the app redirects you to the school's SSO login page.

Identify the SSO Button: The screen will display the JLA login page. Do not enter a username and password in any fields you see. Instead, look for and tap the option that directs you to Google:
- "Log in with Google"
- "Google Login"
- Or a large Google icon.
Select Your JLA Account: This action will open a secure web view or pop-up window controlled by Google.
- You will be prompted to select your Google account. Tap your JLA student email (the one ending in @jlastudents.org).
Complete Sign-In: Google will verify your credentials and automatically redirect you back into the Canvas Student app, logged in to your courses.

4. Troubleshooting the App Login

App Loop: If the app gets stuck in a login loop, close the app completely (swipe up from the bottom or double-tap the Home button and swipe the app away) and restart the process.
Wrong Account: If you are prompted to select an account, ensure you tap the @jlastudents.org email and not a personal account.
