Using Google Single Sign-On (SSO) to access Canvas and Veracross (Computer)
1. Prerequisites: Ensure you're signed in
Before attempting to access your portals, confirm you are properly signed into your school's Google account within the Chrome browser.
Check Your Chrome Profile: Look in the upper right-hand corner of the Chrome browser window. You should see your profile picture or initial associated with your school Google account.

Verify Active Account: If you click on your profile picture, it should list your school email address (which ends in @jlastudents.org) as the account actively signed into Chrome.
2. Accessing Canvas LMS with Google SSO
Once you are signed into Chrome with your JLA Google account, accessing Canvas is typically a quick process.

Navigate to the Canvas URL: Open a new tab and go directly to the JLA Canvas login page: jla.instructure.com/login/saml
Automatic Redirect/Google Login: Because this link uses SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language), a common SSO protocol, you will likely be automatically redirected to a Google sign-in page or prompted to select your account.

Confirm Your School Account:
If you are only signed into one Google account in Chrome, you will likely be automatically logged in to Canvas.
If you are signed into multiple Google accounts, you will be prompted to select your @jlastudents.org email address from a list. Click your school email to complete the sign-in.
3. Accessing Veracross Student Portal with Google SSO
Veracross uses a specific JLA portal link and relies on your existing Google login.
Navigate to the Veracross Portal URL: Open a new tab and go to the JLA Veracross Student Portal login page: portals.veracross.com/jla/student

Look for the Google Login Option: On the Veracross login page, you typically do not enter a password. Instead, look for a button that says:
Click the Google Button: Clicking this button initiates the SSO process and will likely open a small Google pop-up window or redirect you.

Confirm Your School Account: The system will prompt you to confirm your school Google account (your @jlastudents.org email address) to authenticate.
If you encounter any issues, such as being sent into a loop, seeing an error message, or having trouble authenticating:
Clear Browser Data: Try clearing your browser's cache and cookies and then attempting the login process again.
Contact IT Support: If the issue persists, contact the JLA IT team for assistance with your student account or the SSO configuration.
